Research Funding Guide

The ESRC Research Funding Guide sets out our funding rules.

When accepting grant offers, research organisations are committed to adhering to the conditions which apply to the conduct and administration of research, and terms of reporting and payment of claims.

Final reporting requirements have changed for all grants, including current pre-fEC (full economic cost) grants funded under the 2002 Guide, ending after 1 November 2009. Grant holders should refer to the latest version of the Research Funding Guide below for details.

For grants issued prior to 1 November 2009 under pre-fEC rules, please refer to the 2002 Research Funding Guide (below).

The latest guide applies to all grants funded on fEC and non-fEC terms from 1 November 2009. See the Guidance for applicants section for more information.

Latest edition April 2012

The Research Funding Guide has been revised to include relevant links to current Funding Opportunities and assessment information. It has also been re-formatted to provide guidance in chronological order from beginning to end of the grants process. Annexes have been removed and where appropriate the information is now included within the document. A revision to the OJEU threshold has also been included.

Research Funding Guide 2002

Grants issued on applications submitted up to 31 July 2005 were issued under the January 2002 Research Funding Guide rules.

The 2002 guide also applies to any grants funded under pre-fEC rules prior to 1 November 2009. However, please refer to the latest edition of the Guide (above) regarding changes to final reporting requirements for awards ending after 1 November 2009.
