Partnerships and Communications Directorate

The Partnerships and Communications Directorate is responsible for managing communication, and knowledge transfer and exchange, externally and within the ESRC.

Particular responsibilities include:

• the ESRC's overall information strategy
• promotion of all aspects of ESRC, its work and its corporate objectives
• external communications and stakeholder engagement
• management of knowledge exchange schemes and activities
• Science and Society, and public engagement activities
• development of the ESRC's internal communications and knowledge management
• website development and hosting

Policy and Resources Directorate

The Policy and Resources Directorate develops the corporate strategy and policies for the ESRC that will place UK social sciences at the highest level of regard in the scientific and policy worlds.

Particular responsibilities include:

• corporate strategic planning and policy
• financial strategic planning and allocation of the Council's budget
• research governance and policy issues
• research funding policy
• Secretariat for Council, the Research Committee, the Methods and Infrastructure Committee and the Training Skills Committee
• organisational structure, workforce and human resources strategy, personnel policies, and central administration costs
• property, accommodation, office services and health and safety matters
• IT/IS e-business and management information systems
• records management systems
• freedom of information and data protection issues
  
• corporate financial governance, regularity and audit
• accounting policies, procedures and systems/Annual Accounts
• expenditure, income and banking systems and controls
• financial planning, budgets and management information
• purchasing
• Research and training award administration

Research and International Strategy Directorate

The Research and International Strategy Directorate is responsible for developing and commissioning research activities contributing to the Council's Strategic Plan.

Particular responsibilities include:

• liaison with the research community, learned societies and professional associations
• identification and development of potential areas for new research investments, peer review processes, including referee selection
• management of all research funding competitions
