Committees, networks and colleges

Committees

The Committees lead key aspects of our corporate strategy and oversee the development of our research and training investments. They work together to deliver the ESRC corporate objectives with an emphasis on delivering excellent social science with scientific, societal and economic impacts.

Three policy committees, each chaired by a Council member, represent the main sections of our research portfolio.

  • The Methods and Infrastructure Committee oversees and sets policy for ESRC data services, surveys, research methods and information environment.
  • The Research Committee oversees and sets policy for ESRC research funding and investments, both managed and responsive. However it does not make funding decisions on responsive mode applications.
  • The Training and Skills Committee provides strategic direction to the ESRC's efforts to improve the quality of research training for social science researchers in the UK.

These three policy committees work alongside:

  • The Audit Committee provides advice on the overall effectiveness of our management procedures and internal control systems.
  • The Evaluation Committee provides advice on the quality and impact of its investments and corporate strategy.

Networks

The  Impact Network and the International Network, are made up of members from the ESRC Council and the policy committees. They identify and share best practice, link activities, identify collaborative opportunities, and champion these areas of work across the research portfolio.

Colleges

Our Peer Review College members provide expert quality reviews of proposals within their areas of expertise. These reviews inform our decision making processes.
